I have bought a lot of rugs since I became a momma.
Why? Because a well-loved home is a lived-in home and we are hard on rugs. I’d like to blame the kids entirely for the short life span of rugs in our home but I’ve been known to track paint and Travis should probably eat in one of those rain ponchos (Sorry, honey. It’s true.)
But last year, I cracked the code on buying rugs for our busy, messy family.
I started buying only indoor/outdoor rugs.
Here’s the major benefits of indoor/outdoor rugs:
- You can literally hose them down.
- If you shop at the right time of year, you can buy them at deep discounts.
- There are so many fun, graphic patterns available that will add character to your spaces.
But do they really clean up? I mean, ketchup? Red wine? That has to be fake, right? Nope. When our rugs get really nasty, I drag them outside and hose them down. For spot cleaning, I use a Norwex microfiber cloth and Cleaning Paste. (These links go to my friend Terry’s Norwex page. I don’t get anything for recommending his product. I’m just a big fan and if you do buy, you’re helping out a great guy.)
A rug that you can hose off? Take our money, right? Okay, here’s 10 indoor/outdoor rugs I’m loving right now:
I have included affiliate links for your convenience. What does this mean? If you decide to buy, I will earn a small commission off your purchase at no cost to you. That income helps me keep this blog up and running. If you’d like to learn more, here’s my full disclosure.
- Dash and Albert Samode Rug
This rug was an investment purchase for me. I’m normally of the buy-em-cheap camp when it comes to rugs but I realized I was spending $50 to $100 on rugs that would look horrible within six months. I bought this one and I’m so, so, so, so glad I did. It’s in our dining room and I love it. Not only is it easy to clean, it looks great. This is easily my favorite rug of all time.2. Merida Indoor/Outdoor Rug
Ballard Designs always has a great selection of indoor/outdoor rugs. The patterns are beautiful and they are the softest under-foot in my opinion. They are also pricey but if you watch, you can snag them at deep discounts. These runners would be great in front of a kitchen or bathroom sink because they could take the water and mess.
This is the rug that I have in Ada and Eli’s room and I love it so much, I consider dragging it to other parts of the house daily. Wouldn’t it be pretty in the kitchen? Or my bedroom? Ah, I love it so much. If you love kilim rugs, this is a great option because again, clean-up is easy. It isn’t as soft as the Dash and Albert rugs under-foot but the pattern is beautiful and richly colored. Again, one of my favorite items in our house. This is a great sophisticated option for a living room or dining room. The pretty graphic print is classy but you can still drag it outside and hose it down after spaghetti night. Win/win!
This rug has great reviews and at $100 for an 8X10 area rug, the price is unbelievable! This rug would be perfect for a playroom! This rug, which also comes in brown, is again washable and priced at $100 for an 8X10 area rug, which is a killer deal. The 5X7 area rug in this pattern is only $50.
I’m crushing pretty hard on this one from Pottery Barn. I love the classic stripe paired with the fun tribal pattern and fringe. It’s preppy with an edge. I relate.
8. Susan Kasler Ikat
Ballard Designs makes the list again with this Ikat rug by Susan Kasler. This is one of my favorite indoor/outdoor rugs ever because it is so plush and soft under-foot. I was lucky enough to find one at the Ballard outlet in Cincinnati. They are deeply, deeply discounted online right now and you can score a 5X7 area rug in this pattern for under $100.
The muted colors of this one are so soothing. Yep. I’m totally loving this one.
I almost didn’t include this rug because it isn’t indoor/outdoor BUT here’s what I love about it: Jute rugs add beautiful texture to a space and this one is really affordable at $100 for a 5X8 area rug. It’s also reversible so you can flip it if it gets gross on one side. I’m definitely a fan of that versatility! This rug is just too good not to include in this list.
Which one is your favorite, friend? I’m having a hard time choosing!
