I have discovered that chalk paint is a very crucial element to this blog. When I began taking over and going through Our Storied Home I was overwhelmed at all the chalk paint questions. Amanda needed to take a break on the blog so when I started poking around and looking to tidy up a bit, there were ONE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE questions and comments. Every single one of them with the exception of about three were about, yes, you guessed it — chalk paint.
This past weekend I pretty much did nothing but work on the blog, either directly or indirectly. If I wasn’t writing posts, working on social media and editing photos and graphics, I was out in the garage working on a few chalk paint projects. So hopefully I will have several new posts on some projects where I used chalk paint. My goal is to keep that content coming for a couple of reasons. One, I am naturally interested in it myself. Two, I think there are so many products out there and different kinds of surfaces to possibly use chalk paint with that it gives a crazy amount of combinations and ideas. I am going to try many different kinds of products, surfaces, finishes and maybe even mix some of those with non-chalk paint products in the mix sometimes too (i.e. chalk paint base coat, latex on top of that, that sort of thing). Some of these projects may not turn out and that’s okay. I’m going to base the posts and projects on my experiences and not someone else’s, so I will probably screw up a few pieces along the way. Hopefully I can find a fix for them and maybe save you the trouble of making the same mistake yourselves.
While I am still learning, I am going to do my best to answer aaaaaaaaaallllllllll the backlog of questions on chalk paint. It will take me a long time I am sure. If I don’t know the answer I will consult “my expert”, our guru Amanda. Not even sure the best way to format all the questions, do several FAQ posts and break them up, categorize them, I am not sure. But please know I am working on it, a little every day and I am not ignoring your comments or questions. It will be a process of providing you with the information you are requesting, so I appreciate your willingness to be patient with me.
In the meantime, let’s DIY away, and share what we have, okay? I’ll have a new chalk paint post up by the end of the week and we’ll go from there. May the Chalk Paint Revolution continue!

I’ve read the article on painting kitchen cabinets with chalk paint. I’ve painted mine with latex paint in the past, done the sanding, degreasing, priming, etc. The problem was I have raised panels on the cabinets and over time the paint cracked on those places. How would you avoid that if I decided to try chalk paint over them?
