Don’t you just love getting a glimpse into the personal spaces of creative types? When I come across a magazine spread featuring the home of a celebrity, artist or designer, I find myself pouring over every single detail; the art, the furniture, the book titles, the gathering places. I’m particularly drawn to homes that are kid-friendly without feeling like a daycare─ harmonious spaces that are inspiring and inviting to people of all ages.
Everything But the House is hosting their first New York sale this week, giving us curious and creative-driven folks an opportunity to not only peek into an amazing TriBeCa loft but actually shop the look! The loft, which was featured in the Wall Street Journal, is home to Spark Capital partner Mo Koyfman and his wife, shoe and apparel designer Hilary Rosenman Koyfman. I love the clean design that features industrial elements, warm wood accents and eclectic decor that gives the space a casual-cool look that’s perfect for gathering. Here’s some tips for getting the look in your home plus some hand-picked items from the sale that I know I’ll be keeping an eye on:
1. Embrace white walls.
If you are drawn to a collected-look, one way to achieve that without your space looking too overwhelming or messy is embracing white walls. My favorite white paint is Sherwin Williams’ Pure White. It’s a friendly-white that is crisp without being a hospital-white. If you do go white, make sure you paint the ceiling the same color in a flat paint. This will make your space look seamless as the eye goes from the walls to the ceiling. This open-concept room works hard as a dining room, living room and office but with the white walls and an earthy palette of pebble and warm wood hues, it’s peaceful and inviting.

Robert Sherman Reclaimed Barnwood Table and Benches
This beautiful table adds warmth to an all-white space and creates the perfect place for casual gatherings with friends or family.
2. Choose furniture with clean lines.
Creativity is messy. Add kids into the mix and your personal space can become chaotic. One thing you can do to simplify your surroundings a bit is to choose furniture with clean, simple lines. This space would still look orderly with toys scattered on the rug.
What to watch:
Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams Clifton Collection Sectional Sofa
I love that this sofa has clean lines but plush, comfy pillows that would be perfect for kicking back with a book or accommodating a busy (and climbing) toddler.
3. Create places for gathering.
One thing I’m always drawn to in the homes of creative people is the places designed for gathering. This loft features a beautiful, large island that invites friends to laugh and swap stories while the meal is being prepared.
What to watch:
Steel Bar Stools by ABC Carpet & Home
I love the industrial look of these stools but the practical momma in me loves that they’d be easy to clean post-pancake breakfast.
4. Keep the color palette of your kid’s space simple.
The all-white furniture against simple, beige walls in this child’s room works as a blank page to allow for the personality to come through in the toys, books and art. This is a great design plan because it keeps the space from looking too chaotic but also allows for the space to evolve with the child. Think of it like a blank canvas for your child’s personality!
What to watch:
This shelving unit is super-versatile and could work for a kid from nursery to dorm.
5. Don’t be afraid to be playful!
My favorite space in this loft features a lot of items with personality that all work together because they are in the same color family. I love the shelving with books stacked in interesting ways, the pebble-hues picked up in the sofa and various decorative items and the use of wood to add warmth. This space is playful but harmonious.
What to watch:
I’d be tempted to take advantage of EBTH’s offer of half-off shipping to snag this sculpture, which has a unique, weathered-look.
Tell me, friends: which room is your favorite? The New York Sale ends Tuesday, May 26th so don’t miss your chance to shop the look for yourself.
