If These Walls Could Talk

It’s Friday and if your week was anything like mine, you need a good cup of coffee (maybe a glass of wine) and a reminder that life, though messy, is pretty great.

This week at our house, my cell phone broke, the TV is still fried after last’s week’s storm and Eli has been sick since his eggs came back after the Monday morning breakfast I so triumphantly made. Without a phone or TV, we’ve spent a lot of time coloring, playing and doing seemingly endless loads of laundry as Eli works this bug out.

Somewhere in the midst of it all, there was some magic. I didn’t take many pictures this week (I’m really missing my phone,) but I will always remember my sick little guy, sleeping on my shoulder on the porch swing we made from some old kitchen chairs.

You see, that’s what actually happens here on this porch: LIFE.
Eli scraping his knees because he wants to drive a car across the stripes.
Ada swinging in the swing closest to the street so she can wave at people walking dogs.
Holding hands with Travis between the swings like we’ve been doing since we were teenagers 14 years ago this summer.

Yes, there are so many headaches and heartaches we can endure in one week but if you look closely, there’s more. There’s belly laughs. And kitchen-dancing. Fresh starts and sweet endings. In one week, so much life happens.

If your walls could talk, friend, what stories would they tell about your week? I asked that question yesterday on Facebook and here’s what I got back:

Carol of Georgetown, KY, watches the bus leave on her son’s first day of kindergarten.

Emily of Cincinnati, OH overheard her three kids hashing out their creative differences.

Shirer Burkett of Faubush, KY, got brave and gave her bathroom a glam makeover.

Wes and Stacey of Cincinnati, OH, put the finishing touches on their first child’s nursery. Both Mom and Dad created art for their baby girl, Olive, due this month.

And then I came across this amazing video of blogger, Angela, from Jumping With My Fingers Crossed (which should be the title of my life). THIS, friend. THIS is life.

So, friend, I’ve decided that Fridays around here will be devoted to celebrating all the fabulous stories our walls would tell. Here’s how to submit your quotes, videos and photos for next week:

1. Email them to me at ourstoriedhome (at) gmail (dot) com.
2. Hashtag them on Twitter or Instagram with #ourstoriedhome
3. Post them to our wall on Facebook

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, friend!
