DIY Love Letter Wall Art

At our house, I believe the walls are sacred. I love wall art that means something to us, whether it is photos framed beautifully in reclaimed wood frames or handwritten recipes. This easy canvas wall art preserves your (or your loved one’s) handwriting in an artful way. I love the chunky frame because it allows me to tuck little treasures inside, like this old key.

DIY Love Letter Wall Art and Chunky Frame

For chunky-framed wall art, you’ll need:

Square canvas in your choice of size (we used a 6X6 inch canvas)
Black acrylic paint
-Thin paint brush

Gold spray paint
-1X2 pine board
Nail gun
Bar clamps
Wood filler

If you don’t want to build your own frame, I recommend using a thicker, 1 1/2 inch deep canvas and going frame-less!

How to Build a Chunky Frame

  1. Creating your canvas art should be a simple (and fun) process! Relax. This doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact, it’s better that it isn’t perfect. You want your canvas art to be authentic; your real handwriting.
  2. To build the frame, measure and cut the 1X2s at a 45 degree angle so the interior measurement is equal to the measurement of the canvas.
  3. Apply wood glue to the seams of the frame and clamp the wood down with the bar clamps. Nail the sides for a secure fit.
  4. Spray paint the frame.
  5. Drop the canvas into the frame and enjoy your new art!
