My spray paint addiction isn’t what you think — I’m not getting high from spray paint cans. Well, I guess I am, but not the traditional way, I guess. I love to spray paint things. Anything. Indoor, outdoor, concrete, wood, plastic, furniture, lamps, even DIY artwork. My own collection would surprise most people. With all of the new kinds of spray paint, it’s only fed my habit more. Now there’s spray paint that’s frosted glass, textured, for plastic, and even spray stain. Oh! and now there’s spray chalk paint!!!!! I get a little giddy in Lowe’s when I go down the spray paint aisle. It’s. Too. Much.
It’s obvious that I have no fear when it comes to color in general, so I guess the whole obsession with spray paint comes a little more natural to me. The thing about using spray paint is it has several advantages: it’s cheap, there’s a wide variety of color, finish and texture options, and you can see results really fast. That last part is what I find most appealing because I am not a patient person. I will say that I am a spray paint snob — I am, and I am not ashamed. I prefer hands down Lowe’s Valspar brand. And trust me when I say this, but I have used a lot of spray paint. I’m not getting paid to plug them (unless you buy some from my Amazon links that of course I will provide), but I am not a paid pitch person for them, I just really like the stuff. Valspar brand goes on smoother than many other paints out there and the “sprayer thingy” doesn’t seem to get clogged as much either. And one kind of aesthetic thing — I like the “sprayer button” much better. It’s not that tiny little button you have to press down and inevitably you (okay, maybe just me) get spray paint on your finger. It makes me crazy. Valspar has a bigger “trigger” and it doesn’t get all over everything and isn’t so hard on my index finger. Sounds like a small thing, but if you used the stuff as much as I do, its a big deal.
I challenge you to check out the spray paint section at Lowe’s (or anywhere else, but you know how I feel about it). Especially if you have a particular project in mind. Chances are there is a can with your name on it specifically for your project. If you are unsure, you can always ask someone what they recommend. Step outside your comfort zone, choose a color that might be a little different than something you might normally gravitate toward. Remember, you can always spray over it if you don’t like your choice. Trust me, I’ve done it.
