Whenever someones comes over and asks to use the bathroom, I cringe. Our guest bathroom is a mess.

We did a little to update the space when we first moved in for a project I did for Everything But the House, which turned an ordinary pedastal sink into a faux-vessel sink using an old headboard. I was going through my rebellious-with-color-phase and leaning pretty hard on that farmhouse look, which in hindsight, makes me cringe. Also, there was a rooster in the bathroom.

I had to finish that “makeover” in a weekend with a full-house of people here stepping over paint cans to use the bathroom. It was insane and the room didn’t turn out how I would have liked. But we got busy with other projects and Ada realized that the beadboard wallpaper was scratchable so she would hide in there to play “Tiger.” Then I decided I hated the red and in a pregnancy-fueled frenzy, painted it gray with chalk paint sealed with polyurethane (which yellows chalk paint, btw.)

Throw in unfinished ceiling molding, trim that desperately needs a fresh coat of paint and my evil nemesis, that peach tile, and you can see this bathroom needs some love.

When we were working on my mom’s apartment, I found the most gorgeous marble-topped vanity at Home Depot. It was hidden in a back corner, dusty and desperate for someone like me to come in and see her. I think she was singing Queen’s “Somebody to Love.”

I sweet-talked the manager into knocking off $100 to get it out of his way that day and skipped to the car. But then some last-minute building changes made it impossible to install the vanity in Mom’s bathroom (I swear, Mom, I didn’t do this on purpose!)

I have been working with the Pebble Tile Shop on creating a tutorial for updating a fireplace surround with pebble tile and they asked me if I would be interested in trying out their new glass arabesque tile, too. I have always dreamed of installing a glass tile feature wall to add depth to this small bathroom. Wouldn’t it be amazing to make those small, builder-basic bathrooms feel a little larger and less cave-like without having to knock down a wall?! So, we’re going to give it a try.

I wish you could see these tiles in person. They are beautiful. I was so tempted by the Vapor and Surf tiles but ended up choosing the Smoke.

Here is my design plan. I  had to throw this together while nursing a fussy, teething toddler so please excuse the lack of scale. Whenever I’m working on a space I use Picmonkey or Canva to create a mood board to keep me on track and help me visualize the space a little better.
