Having a 3 tiered serving tray is very “in” right now. If you look on Pinterest, there is post after post of different ways to design and decorate these vintage gems for the holidays. After looking at several I thought I would give it a whirl, but after spending the $40 on the serving tray itself from Amazon,* I really wanted to try and use things I already had, which gave me an added challenge.
Note: PLEASE check all the options if you are going to purchase your 3 tiered galvinized tray on Amazon. The one I purchased on Amazon is now $77. The link I posted for this post was the least expensive option with the best reviews at the time I wrote this. I don’t want you spending more than you have to spend, so be sure to poke around and see all your options. Prices change all the time. Also I have provided Amazon links for your convenience. The links provided may not be exactly the same item as I had, but it can give you some ideas of what you might like for your decor. I had all of these things and some could no longer be found.
Originally when I started this project, I had already purchased an Olivia ornament for myself (I LOVE Olivia!) and since she was in all red, white and black, I thought this would be a great color scheme to work with, perhaps with a few splashes of other colors here and there. I didn’t really have a particular design in mind or a plan on how to do it, I just started adding things one at a time as I found them around the house, in Christmas decor, or even in my things I save to wrap packages.
I found a set of 12 poinsettia glasses that have been in my family as long as I can remember. They were red and green and I thought added a nice pop to the tray. So I placed a few here and there, at least one or two on each tier. Once I got into making a few ornaments for the tree this year, I added some of those (the black ornament with the black and white gingham ribbon), as well as the ring with the same ribbon tied at the top. I had also found a little wooden “Merry Christmas” wooden sign that fit perfectly (totally forgot I had it!), and a few small little Christmas trees from Christmas village-type of decor.
My antique Mr. and Mrs. Claus salt and pepper shakers were a must-use. Along with my favorite holiday candle (Marshmallow Fireside from Bath & Body), I also included a cream colored mason jar with some red and white striped paper straws in it.
I went through my package decorations and found quite a few snowmen of various sizes and colors, which I used to put in some of the poinsettia glasses. I also had a “JOY” tag that I thought would go with the look of the 3 tiered serving tray.
There’s also some contemporary polka dot ornaments, napkins, and a few other things. My finishing touches consisted of using some glass beads that I used to fill in empty spots on the tray or to fill in the poinsettia glasses to raise the height of the snowmen I put in them. But my fave part was the puck lights with magnets. The link I have here for the puck lights are not the same puck lights I have. I purchased mine from Lowe’s many years ago and I haven’t seen them there, so I found the closest thing I could on Amazon for you.
I put them underneath the first and second tiers and also underneath the mason jar. When I hit the little button on each light, it lit up and was so beautiful!!!1 I thought it was perfect for entertaining during the evening hours.
The challenge was met — I didn’t have to buy anything to decorate my new 3 tier serving tray. I’m already thinking about all the other holidays and seasons I can decorate using the new serving tray.
